Fall 2008 Brooklyn Generation School received its first school Progress Report.  Part of the NYC Department of Education's accountability plan, the Progress Report, drawing on data from the school's first year, demonstrates the school is successful working with a population of kids who have been underserved by conventional schools. Brooklyn Generation's students started ninth-grade behind and significantly behind. The students came to school, passed their classes, and passed their terminal exams. To see the complete Progress Report, visit Schools.nyc.gov

In addition, the school received its first write up on InsideSchools.  A project of Advocates for Children, InsideSchools visits and writes reviews of every NYC public school.  The review reflects the school's engaged and encouraging culture and climate.  To read the review, visit InsideSchools.org

September 2008 Brooklyn Generation began its second year with roughly 150 ninth and tenth-graders.  Chancellor Klein and President Weingarten renewed their commitment to Generation Schools and Brooklyn Generation, signing a three year, renewable agreement.

February and May 2008 Brooklyn Generation School launched the first College and Career Intensive in February with the goal of helping students dream bigger, work harder and care more.  Students spent time on the campus of Brooklyn College.  They visited a number of media outlets including the Village Voice, Conde Nast, Black Enterprise Publishing, WNYC, NBC, and ABC to meet professionals and learn about the work they do.

Brooklyn Generation School implemented the second College and Career Intensive in May.  Students chose to be part of Team Music, Medicine, Business, Technology or Sports.  They learned more about college paths and career options open in each field.  Students received math tutoring every day during the month as they prepared for their first NY State Regents exam.

November 2007  Chancellor Joel Klein and President Randi Weingarten of the United Federation of Teachers officially signed our much-anticipated agreement authorizing Generation Schools' innovative school calendar. The new calendar extends the day and school year for students without increasing the teachers' work year. It also offers substantially more professional development and grade-level planning time for all our teachers -- 20 days of focused planning and training.
